Jan Burland Frantz serves as Director of Corporate Projects for Battle Creek Unlimited, the economic development organization serving Battle Creek, Michigan.  Ms. Burland Frantz serves on boards and committees across the region, addressing economic development,  workforce development, international trade, and quality of life issues.

  Ken Masumoto, Michigan Economic Development Corp. 
 Ken Masumoto currently serves as Manager of the Japanese Business Development, International Business Unit of the Michigan Economic Development Corporation. He is involved in community organizations in Battle Creek and Detroit Michigan; a full board member of Battle Creek Unlimited from 1986 up to present, a board member of Japan Business Society of Detroit, an advisor in the Japanese Saturday School since 1986, a board member of the Japan Business Society of Detroit. He is also an Executive Board Member and founding member of Japan

American Society of West Michigan since 1998.

 
 
Dennis Marvin, Consumers' Energy

 Dennis H Marvin is Communications Director of New Generation forConsumers Energy which is responsible for evaluating and developing new energy supply strategies. Marvin served as Vice Chairman of the Michigan Global Partnership, and Chairman of the partnership’s Asia Division, which is a private-public economic development partnership involved in promoting the State of Michigan in international markets including Japan, Korea, and China. He was also founding Chairman of the Japan America Society of West Michigan.

Bob Perkins, Executive Director

 Robert L. (Bob) Perkins is owner, Aperks International, and franchise partner, Leadership Management Institute, Waco, Texas.  Bob has extensive experience in international marketing and operations; organizational planning and development; strategic planning and leadership training programs supported by LMI.  Bob has served as an interim Executive Director for Japan America Society of West Michigan and was a founding Board Member of the Society.

Stephen Covell, Western Michigan University

Stephen Covell is Mary Meader Professor of Comparative Religion and Associate Professor of Japanese Religions at Western Michigan University. He is the founding director of the WMU Soga Japan Center and author of Japanese Temple Buddhism. He has a Ph.D. and MA from Princeton University; an M.A. from the University of Hawaii; and a B.A. from the University of California, San Diego.

Susan Jackson, The Right Place, Inc.

Susan Jackson serves as Vice President - Business Development for The Right Place, Inc., a West Michigan-based regional economic development organization. Jackson, a former Business Development Manager with the Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC), has more than 23 years of economic development experience. Rena Pomaville, American Compounding Specialties

 Jill has been a part of Southwest Michigan First since its inception in 1997. With over 25 years experience in business development in Southwest Michigan, Jill knows the key to building successful companies. Jill serves as Vice President and her area of focus is Life Science sector and local government relations.  Jill is past- President and Treasurer of the Michigan Economic Developers Association and continues to serve on the Board or Directors.  She is also a Board member of the City of Kalamazoo SmartZone.

Bill Schroer’s background includes 15 years of strategy/marketing/research with corporations including the Kellogg Company. He started WJSchroer Co.in 1987 and was a pioneer in using corporate marketing techniques with non-profit and public sector organizations to bring about social change.  Bill not only consults with a wide range of public and private sector organizations, he teaches seminars and classes on marketing, research and planning.  Bill serves as Chairman of the Downtown Partnership Board in Battle Creek,is formerly President of the Leila Arboretum Society and serves on the Japan-American Society of Southwest Michigan. He also also serves on the Board of the Naturist Society.  Bill has a B.A. from the University of Wyoming and MBA from Western Michigan University. Bill served in the military as a Special Forces team leader and as instructor at West Point. He retired as a Major from the Reserve Forces.
